In Ruma Rima we have been making sock puppets. We created our own puppet so that we can write a play for our puppets to perform in. Here are our puppet creations.

Class Photo at Karoro Beach after our Clean Up
We are learning to understand what a living landscape is.
We are learning what a living landscape is and how people's actions effect it.
We are learning to take action to improve our local environment.
Ruma Rima had an interesting trip down to Karoro Beach. We went to pick up rubbish and investigate the types of rubbish found. We were shocked at the amount we found as first glance would indicate that there was very little. After our clean up we all had a game of volleyball on the sandy court. The game was a lot of fun. The beach is a fantastic place to visit and play so we need to look after our local resources/areas.
Students have written about their experiences in a writing form of their choice. They needed to include specific language features and emotion.
Walt use descriptive words in our writing and make the reader feel a certain way by Breanna
We are learning to add descriptive words in our writing and use words that make the reader feel a certain way.
The air was as cold as stone as the class walked down to the Karoro Beach to pick up litter dropped by people or washed up by tides. The class was divided into groups that parents volunteered to chaperone, luckily I was in the same groups as Breanna my BFF and Amanda, Hannah's mother was our chaperone. The group members were myself, Breanna, Hannah, Hamish and Issac.
The beach looked clean at first glance but it was when we looked under the driftwood when I felt a tsunami of anger rush over my head. I never expected a rubber jandal or a cap to show up and pipes that were old and had some brown stuff on the end but we also found some other weird things like, a syringe that might have had contained some medicine against a cow disease and a vial filled with a yellow unidentified liquid that might be illegal drugs or something else yucky. On the cycle trail in the penguin zone I was shocked to see rubbish in between the trees forming a cave like shape. As my group went in the first thing we saw was plastic but the big thing that was in there was a massive piece of metal.
Although the beach was a tiny bit cleaner we, and I mean all of humankind, need to decide if we want beaches covered in litter or beaches litter free and healthy. In half an hour our entire class found 498 pieces of plastic and that’s not cool. It’s your choice to look after the environment. by Emma

Get NZ Writing School Kit Sponsored by The Warehouse
We have had a fantastic time writing using simile, metaphor and alliteration. We have written a number of poems. Some about what we heard outside our classroom and some we found in pages of texts. We then wrote a short poem about ourselves for our partner school. These were sent away last week to Manukau, Aukland. We are looking forward to receiving their work in the near future. Thank you School Kit and The Warehouse for providing this unit of work and some resources for us to use. We have really enjoyed it. Here are some photos of some of our work in progress and completed on our classroom wall.
Hangi
We have been learning about the hangi process. Recently we held a hangi for our school family. We used a multikai cooker for our event. The students looked at both the multikai cooker and the inground hangi. This is some of the work created to show our understandings.

Safe Cycling 2018
In Ruma Rima we have been learning all about safe cycling. We learnt about basic road rules, how to fit a helmet correctly, and the position of the bike on the road. Then we practiced skills like scanning, riding in a straight line, sharp turns, braking and slow riding for control. We had an awesome day thanks to NZ Police and Constable Jos.
What We Already Know About Changes As We Grow
We are going to visit with Harold from Life Education tomorrow and Thursday. We are going to be learning about changes that happen to us as we grow and how to stay healthy and happy. This is a Padlet showing what we already know. You might like to add what you know about this to the Padlet by double clicking on the Padlet and adding a comment into the box. Remember to add your name in the title bar so we know who is commenting. Please make sure you do not delete any of our comments.
Introduction Fynn
